ICSE is committed to addressing the socioeconomic challenges faced by indigenous communities worldwide. By harnessing the potential of ecotourism, we aim to empower these communities economically while preserving their rich cultural heritage and protecting their natural environments. Our mission is to foster economic opportunities, cultural preservation, and environmental conservation through innovative and sustainable ecotourism practices.
Our vision is to create a world where indigenous and ethnic youth are empowered to become leaders and change-makers within their communities. Through comprehensive education programs and hands-on training, ICSE promotes and strengthens cultural, economic, and environmental sustainability. We aim to educate tourists on the ecological and cultural significance of indigenous lands, fostering a deeper appreciation for sustainability and stewardship.
The vision for ICSE is inspired by the legacy of the Alliance Redwoods Conference Grounds (ARCG), which began over 70 years ago. ARCG was founded by a group of dedicated Christian & Missionary Alliance pastors who saw the potential for faith-based camping in the beautiful redwoods of Sonoma County. Over the decades, ARCG has evolved into a year-round facility, serving over 55,000 guests annually and offering a variety of retreats and educational programs.
The Alliance Redwoods story is one of resilience, community effort, and a commitment to service. From humble beginnings with hand-dug cesspools and makeshift accommodations, ARCG has grown into a renowned destination for spiritual renewal and environmental education. This spirit of perseverance and dedication to service is at the heart of ICSE's mission and vision.
ICSE offers a comprehensive training framework that combines practical work experience with theoretical education. Our six-month internships provide hands-on experience in various aspects of ecotourism management, complemented by classes taught by esteemed professors from institutions such as Stanford University. This dual approach ensures that participants gain both the skills and knowledge necessary to manage sustainable ecotourism ventures.
We invite you to join us on this journey towards a sustainable future. Whether you are a potential participant, partner, or supporter, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference. Together, we can empower indigenous communities, protect our planet, and promote a more equitable and sustainable world.
